If you know nothing else about Winslow, you probably know the lyric from the Eagles song “Take It Easy”:
“I was standin’ on a corner in Winslow, Arizona, such a fine sight to see. It’s a girl, my lord, in a flatbed Ford, slowin’ down to take a look at me.”
The good citizens of Winslow have embraced this notoriety by creating Standin’ on the Corner Park, complete with a statue of a musician standing on the corner, a flatbed Ford, and a two-story mural that depicts the female driver of said vehicle. The second floor of the mural includes an eagle and a depiction of an encounter between the musician and his admirer seen through a hotel window. An establishment across the street, also called Standing’ on the Corner, plays appropriate music. A couple of blocks away is a motel called Sleepin’ on the Corner.
Based on the number of people taking photos, this appears to be the top tourist attraction in Winslow. We were not immune.
